Before I moved on to making a proper model in the workshop, I decided to do a little exploration with foam core and carve out the shape of the base with a shape on top similar to the pot.
As a result of this, we decided to go for the straight edge on the base because it looked odd being the same angle. With the straight edge, the base looks more solid and a more balanced base for the pot.
