vibration motors

Introducing the Precision Microdrives Pico Haptic™ range of Ø4mm ~ Ø7mm micro vibration motors, more commonly known as pager motors. This range is our best selling product line. Used by mobile / cell phone manufacturers worldwide to offer vibra-alert ringing functions, these micro vibration motors are now being used by a wide range of industrial designers. Mobile phones popularised vibration feedback as a way of alerting the user that their phone was ringing.

  • Exploded Micro Vibration Motor or Pager Motor
Industrial equipment is often used in scenarios where seeing or hearing a visual or audio alert can be hard. Micro vibration motors can be integrated into a design so that equipment operators and users can rely on a third sense - touch
Our Pico Haptic™ range is designed to be used for handheld equipment in the weight range of around 25 ~ 200 g (1 - 7 oz.). Micro vibration motors in this range come in either 1.5, or 3v operation which makes them ideal forbattery power supplies. The combination of voltages makes these motors suitable for single / double cell power buses of Alkaline, Zinc, Silver Oxide and single cell Lithium primary sources, NiCd, NimH, Li-ion secondary rechargeable batteries.
All motors in this part of the range are based on a brushed coreless cylinder design and utilise powerful NdFeB Neodymium magnets for an improved magnetic flux circuit. The vibrating motors come in a number of form factors that make retrofit and design integration easier; the form factors are split into 4 sub-sections:
- PCB Vibration motors
- Coin Vibration Motors
- Leaded Pager Motors
- Encapsulated Motors

Coin Vibration Motor :: Pico Haptic™ Range

Precision Microdrives currently manufactures coin vibration motors, also known as shaftless or pancakevibrator motors, in Ø8mm, Ø10mm and Ø12mm diameters. Coin vibration motors are compact, convenient to use and integrate into many designs, because they have no external moving parts and can be affixed in place with a very strong permanent self-adhesive mounting system.
They are used extensively in mobile phonesRFID scannersportable instruments and in some medical applications.

Enclosure can be easily moulded to accept the coin form of the shaftless vibration motors. Within the coin vibration motor range, we offer both leaded and spring & pad mountable versions. Like all of our motors, we are happy to quote for variations to the base design such as a modification to the eccentric weight, lead length and also connectors.

Encapsulated Vibration Motors

Overview

  • 6mm encapsulated vibration motor
  • 6mm encapsulated vibration motor
Our range of encapsulated vibration motors currently include 6mm and 7mm diameter types.
These encapsulated vibration motors are designed to be overmoulded with low temperature plastics to make them watertight. Without overmoulding they are IP65 rated to protect against the ingression of dust and water jets.
If you have any questions, please contact us and we'll be happy to help.
Typical applications for the micro range of vibrating motors includes:
  • Haptic / Tactile feedback to users of consumer products and industrial handheld equipment
  • Medical Equipment.

Electrical Options

Both encapsulated vibration motors have a nominal voltage rating of 3v, and are based on a coreless design.

Mounting Options

If not mounted through over-moulding, the alternative method for mounting would be to attach these encapsulated vibration motors to the application via adhesive in a collet or similarly sized circular receptacle. For close tolerance metal enclosures rubberised Cyano Acrylate can be used, such as Loctite 480.
Over-moulding / over-casting is possible, but only for low temperature and low pressure presses to avoid damage to the encapsulated vibration motor.

Vibration Motor Flying Leads & Connectors

Our leaded encapsulation motors come as standard with 45mm flying leads (AWG 32, UL1571, PVC insulation). However, for many customers we make variants of these base parts which are identical in electrical and performance specifications, but that have different leads, or a variety of connectors attached.
Common variations include:
  • Twisted leads (i.e. intertwining them into a helix shape),
  • Alternate lead and strip lengths,
  • Connectors (e.g. AVX, Kyocera, Molex, Tyco).
